Post subject:  Slant 6 Build-up in Mopar Muscle

Just got my latest issue of Mopar Muscle (Feb 06) and in it they had an article on a slant 6 buildup that put out 300 horses on the dyno. Interesting article with lots of high dollar custom parts.

Yep, great article. Lots of fun to see what they did with that motor. Custom rods, pistons, reworked crank, etc. The cam was huge if the numbers in the article are correct. 270 duration at 0.050 lift? I run a 270@050 cam in my stroker big block and it is a full on race cam in there. I can't imagine how wicked it would idle in a slant.

Wow, didn't know a major magazine would have interest in doing up a slant. Hopefully this will spark some interest to get the aftermarket interest up.

Also interesting to note that no prices were given for the custom stuff or the total buildup.

the last time mopar muscle did a slant buildup i think it had a cast crank with a hydraulic cam and a 350 holley 2 barrel carb. maybe they're just overcompensating a little? :D

Actually, big cams in Slants act quite docile in general. I can idle my 250@0.050" cam down to 6-700 rpm, and Cameron Tilley's car had a ~265@0.050" cam that would do 8-900rpm comfortably with Webers.

I need to get a copy of this mag. I stopped my MM subscription a while back cuz they seemed to be doing mostly resto stuff, which does not interest me unless it's something really weird from the factory.

This isn't the first time Mopar Muscle has done a Slant Six build. They ran a good series on aluminum slant sixes a while back. A bunch of other magazines, even Hot Rod (which is very partial to Chevy) did one.

If you like the article then send a nice note to Randy Bolig. Editors are people too, they respond to rewards.

The EFI setup for the slant in this article was pretty cool looking. The only thing that seemed weak was the flow results for the cylinder heads. But I don't know that much about slant six heads so maybe these are as good as they get. They just seemed really low when compared to good SB heads.

Yes,
Let's all drop the editor a nice note! HE will be much more impressed if he gets 50 or 100 e-mails than if he gets 4. It doesn't cost us a dime to send a thank you note by e-mail. Let's do it!!

Editor
Randy Bolig

mopar.muscle@primedia.com

Seems like you have to write their name on your mail, as most of them used the same address

Maybe someone else can find some other address?

All remember that deg duration at .050 is only part of the reason for ilde problems the other is lobe seperation angle, intake runner lenght exh. reversion....

My thanks to Randy Bolig re slant 6 build up have been e mailed

right after I pick up a copy I'll send an email off.

Just in case I can't find a copy (places around here usually don't carry mopar mags, just chebby crap and mustywangs), do you know the head flow numbers off hand? I would like to see how it compares to mine.

Same here. I prefer Mopar Action, but dang, they seem to regard /6 engines as nothing more than temporary placeholders for V8s. If MM can do the occasional slant article, why not MA?

Mopar Action has done several articles on cool Slant racecars, such as Rodney Hargis, Meril Bruner, and Charles Myers. Not for a while, but still... They should really do one on the Drakes' Simca.
