| Post subject: | MP header |
I was wondering if anyone noticed that Jegs sells the MP header for really cheap compared to other headers. I was wondering for anyone who knows or has the MP header if it will fit the 66 and back Abodies. So far the Cliffords are the only ones that will. I had the opportunity to buy a Hooker supercomp header and a offy 4 barrel intake with a edelbrock carb on it but he wanted to sell them both and wouldnt sell them seperate and wanted 300 bucks for em. The supercomps wont fit pre 67 Abodies otherwise I would have bought em. Also Jegs has 4 or 5 different cams for a slant but they dont give u any info on them at all. Anyway just wanted to see if those MP headers would fit pre 67 a bodies. thanks |

Those headers can be "made to fit", but it ain't pretty. If you have a column shifter I wouldn't even try. |

So basically its either clifford or no header. And i do have a column shift. Well if clifford didnt want 350 bucks for theirs then i wouldnt mind do much. Are their any other headers out there that anyone knows about? |

I have run 12 second ETs through "Dutra Duals", they are a good compromise, especially if you are working on a "street-strip" type car. DD |

I have been trying to get a "header" person to build some early "A" slant six headers, both for the 170 and 225. He can copy my Cliffords. Trouble is everytime I get an OK, he gets busy, with other work. If he does the slant headers, they would be "fill in" work. |

Charlie, What if you could guarantee him a lot of 5+ sets. Would that get his attention? Lou |

I will ask him, but not untill after the first of the year. He works a full time job, and is getting a bunch of year end overtime, so he is not doing any headers until then. |

Is the MP header the 6 into 1? Would it fit my 64 Dart with pushbutton auto? It would be nice to have options. |

Just had a phone call, from the guy that makes the headers, and we had a discussion. Main question: Long tube, similar to the old Clifford, or "shorty style". I will start a new thread, in the "other" forum. |

ya Dutra Duals are very good for a street/strip manifold. You could buy the front part and just cut up your current manifold to make the rear, doesnt look like it would take much and save money i myself to save money probably would have gone this route on my 66 mp headers wouldnt fit plus its a colum shift |

I bought one of the MP headers for my Demon. It is a 6 into 1 with a 3" collector. Fit well and worked well, but I did have to file most of the mounting holes oval to bet it to bolt up right and not ruin the gaskets in a few days. The bolt hole pattern was off a little bit compared to the ports. After massaging it, I did my usual header gasket trick. I use 2 gaskets and glue them together with Permatex 3H (thick brown stuff in a small bottle with a bruch cap) and then glue both sides so that it sticks to the head and the header. After that, it was fine! As far as cams go, I ran the .460 lift 268 duration MP cam and it ran GREAT! The car had a single 3" exhasut system all the way out the rear and people always thought it was a 340 car. It had that great rumpy V8 sound at idle and a cool moan cruising. I used a Flowmaster 5" thick SUV muffler and thier 3" universal tailpipe kit to get the mandrel bends up over the axle. I also used a late model head to get rid of the spark plug tubes and ported the bowls. It all worked out pretty well. I should have kept THAT car instead of the Rampage I kept. Even with all that stuff on it and driving it having fun, the Demon still got about 17 mpg. A guy out in NC bought it - wondering if it's still around......... Marc www.marcmedina.com |

thanks, josh Charlie_S and I know someone who put the MP header into a '66 Dart. He unbolted the motor mounts, raised the motor up with a hoist, bolted on the header, then drop slammed it back into the engine bay. Then he fixed all the crushed pipes. As Charlie_S said, it will go, but it's ugly. |
