the 'parts list' on the home page won't open for me and the archives search has been fruitless. i know there is a stant # gas cap that fits my 65 b-cuda, but i can't seem to find it. anyone out there able to enlighten me? thanks, sb |

Once you install a rag for a gas cap it is no longer a rag. It is now known a gas tank filler neck pressure release filtration device or a fuse. |

nice. no fuel in the tank right now, so its not much of a fuse, just a small animal and dust deterent for my newly boiled out fuel tank. actually i have NO cap at all. when i picked the car up out of a back yard, it had no gas cap. i am now dangerously close to getting the car back on the road and need a gas cap. sb |

Not an ideal fix but this has been working for me - I got a locking gas cap and whittled/grinded down the soft metal insert until it fit. It still locks, and doesn't look too bad. Steve 1966 Dodge Dart GT |

steve what car do you have that gas cap on? what part # did you use to modify to fit? i don't mind massaging the thing to get it to fit, just want to keep crap (other than gasoline) out of my gas tank! oh yeah, and keep gas in there. sb |

Hi SB, This is for my '66 Dart, which I think has the same size filler neck as your '65 Barracuda. Lemme take a look at it when I get home tonight and post the part number (I'm at work right now). I think it's a Stant. Works pretty good, it's just a pain to shave it down to fit the filler neck. Steve |

OK, just took a look at the cap and I have to admit it doesn't fit as well as I remember (car's been in storage while I do engine work). The biggest problem is that it's too loose in the in-and-out direction. The catch tabs, the tabs that extend and retract when the key is turned in the cap, are located too far into the neck. This means that you can pull the cap out about 1/4" before the locking tabs catch on the filler neck lip. This is kind of annoying, I wish it was a snugger fit. But it locks and stays put, so it's somewhat secure. There's no brand name or part number on it; I guess I was wrong about it being a Stant. It's probably just a cheapie, I picked it up at Kragen about 3 years ago. It's big, about 3 1/4" in diameter and does fit nicely into the recess in the body around the filler neck. Sorry I couldn't provide more info, but if you can find a cap whose inside diameter can be shaved down, it might be worth a shot. Another potential option: I was just at Kragen and the Fram catalog shows part # RG85 as fitting our cars. They didn't have it in stock, it may be discontinued too, but might be worth a look. I think it was non-locking. Hopefully Fram gas caps are better than Fram oil filters! Steve |

As far as I and the Fram website know, Fram don't make or sell fuel caps. "RG85" makes me wonder, 'cause the old (now discontinued) Stant number for the locking cap to fit '60-'66 A-bodies was G85. In any event, I'll try to speed up my fact-finding for you. If all goes well, the gas cap problem will be solved soon. |
