Post subject:  Headlight switch problem

Hello everyone and merry christmas! I got a small problem on my dart '68 lights, the low beams (is that right?) just don't work although it did a few days ago and I didn't touch a thing. They work if i pull the switch all the way and i just switch between hi and lo beams with the footswitch but if i pull it just halfway, the headlights won't light! And my stoplights does work in every position! Could that be a known problem or is it just my switch going dead?
I actually don't really want to mess up with all those wires since they are already really really messed up! And reaching the cables behind the dashboard is really a pain!
Oh by the way, my interior lights (?) don't work either...
Thanks for your help!

Marc

P.S : does anyone know which way the wires to the rear (stop lights and all that stuff) goes? I mean where do they arrive and how? Through the floor?

First let's make sure we're all talking about the same lights.

When you pull the headlamp switch to the first position, you should get the veilleuses/feux de ville/feux de position avant & arriere (that's "parking lights" in front, and "tail lights" in rear, in English). It is also possible that your 1968 still has its US-type feux de position laterales (that's "side marker lights"). if so, these would illuminate with the headlamp switch in the first position.

When you pull the headlamp switch to the second position, the feux de position should stay on, and the headlamps should illuminate, and then you can switch back and forth between faisceau code & faisceau route (that's "low beam" and "high beam", respectively).

Now, it sounds from your description as if your parking and tail lamps don't illuminate when you pull the switch to the first position. Is that correct? Or have I misunderstood the problem?

Well, the interior lights and the brake or tail lamps are on the same fuse (so that you'll know if there's a fault with the rear lights before someone hits you). If that fuse is blown, then you will have to find and fix the problem.

But yes, it could also be a faulty headlamp switch.

No, through a channel that is accessed by removing the left kickboard ("wall" to the left of your left foot when you are sitting in the driving seat) and the left-side sill plates (the aluminum plates that cover the door sills, front and rear).

I knew it was going to be tough with my poor english! :?
Actually, my tail lamps does work but my low beams don't when in the first position (although they work on the second one).
Hope i did make it clear :D

Again: Your low beams and high beams (faisceau code, faisceau route) should ONLY work in the second position. The only lamps to work in first position are feux arriere, feux laterales, feux de position/veilleuses.

Ok, of course my high beams should only work in second position but i thought my low beams should also work in the first.
I'm a bit confused with all those lights. I thought the parking lights were the low beams... :? Sorry for the confusion!

No, the only position in which the low OR high beams should work is second position, and you change between low and high beam with the foot switch.

Post subject:  Switch part number for a 1965 barracuda?

Dan, do you have any part numbers for the headlight switch that I could take to the parts store? The rheostat in mine is trashed.

Thanks,

Greg
