Hi Ya I'm going to be rebuilding a slant 6 225 block. Can you give me some tips, tricks and general knowledge of what to watch out for etc. I am hoping to get a motor in fairly good shape and just replace rings and bearings and seals. Then swap it into my car. many thanks T |

Just pay attention to the basics... The following can be fairly expensive but if you do it right your /6 will run for a long time. * Choose a competent machine shop (they will handle the details). * Have the head surfaced to get the compression ratio up a little. Shoot for about 9:1 for a nice pump gas street motor. * ALWAYS have the head rebuilt (again, let the machine shop choose new part if required). * Have the rod bolts replaced. * Use good gaskets. * Use a new timing chain, oil pump, balancer, cam and lifters. * Keep everything squeaky clean during assembly and document all clearances. * Break it in carefully (2000- 2200 RPM for 30 minutes). Enjoy. The engine will outlive you !! |

BTW: Personally I don't recommend just doing rings and bearings. These engines are way to old to get by with just a quick R&B job.
