can someone go through the steps of intalling cam(stock 74) in a '74 225 engine out and installing a factory(rebuild kit) timing set. i cant get compression when the marks are aligned but when they are 180 out i get compression. also when the engine is in align the valves have a 1/4" gap.

You would get the proper procedure, tedchnique, measurements and even pictures from a Factory Service Manual. I'm sure several folks here could walk you through it, but you and they would have to be "on the same page" as far as language usage (what to call a certain part, for example).
