I've been told, but can't believe that some dampers don't have the big crank bolt, but when I went to replace the timing gear and chain set, lo and behold, no bolt! Did some marketing douche just say, "We don't really need one and it would save a quarter", or is there another reason? |

It's not required, since the damper is an interference fit. |

For every crank with the bolt you will prolly see ten without it. |

I wondered about that too. It came right off with a puller, but what about re-assembly. Do you pound it on with a mallet, or what? |

I use a bolt to draw the damper down, then remove the bolt. |

NOT a good idea. the thrust surface of the #3 main bearing will hate you for it. you can use the bolt trick mentioned above with some grease between the bolt head and washer and some oil on the crank snout to help things move. there is a univerasal damper installer tool you can buy for about 30-40 bucks that works really well and worth the money if you plan on building a few motors.-james |

Usually you can borrow a dampner installer from autozone. Hey everyone autozone does have an actual use. |

I used to do the bolt trick for a while, then I stripped a crank snout and two bolts, Jut buy an installer from summit, Or make repeated trips to your local parts store, and borrow. For me it's woth the forty bucks to just buy one. Greg |
