Hey there

I was wondering if one can compare (actually, relate) carbs CFM and barrels diameter.

i.e. holleys 2 barrels 350 and 500 cfm... etc.

The actual question is: would a 350 cfm 2 barrel holley carb have less barrels diameter than a 500 cfm? obviously a smaller cfm carb would have smaller diffusors... I'm referring to diameter @ throttle blades.

Just as a quicky

2300 350 cfm Holley 1 3/16" venturi diameter 1 1/2" throttle bore
2300 500 cfm Holley 1 3/8" 1 11/16"

The volume of air moving through an opening depends on basically 2 things: 1. The air pressure differential across the opening ( we measure that as vacuum ) and the effective cross section of the opening. A larger opening will flow more air than a small one at the same vacuum level. I said "effective" cross section because more than just the bore diameter is in play; the effective cross section is reduced by other restrictions such as throttle plates and shafts, choke plates and shafts, and other air horn obstructions. All else being equal, the larger diameter bore will allow more air to pass than a smaller one.
