Post subject:  What is it worth? 75 Dart

I posted a 75 Dart for sale in the vehicle for sale section....but no replies....and I'm tring to figure out, is my price unreasonable? What is this worth: 75 Dart 4 dr. Brown with tan interior. near mint interior, minimal rust exterior which is being fixed. AC, man. disk, rear drum, 7 1/4 open rear. S6 Engine/904trans/suspension was all removed, serviced and detailed. every chassis component was cleaned, blasted and painted. All new suspension bushings and joints. New master cyl. all lines and hoses, WCs, calipers, shoes pads...etc. New tires, new exhaust, new carb., new radiator. Runs perfect....86K miles. I asked $2700. wrong time of year? just a 4 dr? what gives? I even said. "trades considered"

Well, unless is a two door, A-bodies generally don't get more than $2k no matter what condition they are in. Yours sounds like it is in very nice shape. Maqybe say $2500 OBO and include some pictures.

The other common answer is it is worth what someone is willing to pay. Generally, mid 70's 4 door cars are not valued as highly as the two door equivalent. In fact most mid 70's cars including a-bodies are not valued as highly as earlier versions of those same vehicles (with a-bodies the high end range is probably in the 67-71 range) as these are the most desireable for collectors. Most four doors are not consider "sporty" or muscle cars, look at all the flack the new four door charger is getting.

Post pictures and try OBO'ing and see what happens.

Disclaimer: There are exceptions to every rule, four door hemi cars have value, older 4 door lincolns seem to have some value as well, and I am sure some will say that earlier or later a-bodies may be just as desirable as the range I listed and will probably be able to show a case where they are right.

You left off 4-door hardtop Newports... They're the high water mark of cool. 8) :wink:

Sad reality: Many, if not most folks (myself included) view 4-door "A-body" sedans (especially the 70's models) as potentially dependable transportation or fun beaters, not way-cool cruisers or hot-rods. Not trying to diss on them, so no offense to anyone with a seventy-something 4-door pride-and-joy, but the market for them is not hot.

Hey, Al Bundy drives a 4 door Dart! Anyway...this car was built up over the past 4 months as an auto shop learning car. That means...everything was done 2 or 3 times to make sure it was right (not a hack job). I think total out of pocket expenses are ~ $2500. A radiator for a 4 door cost the same as one for a 2 door! Same with all the other parts. lol
We did a 4 door just because it was the only car available.

I"m still undecided about painting it. Thats just more money out. But it is a pefect daily driver for sure.

I need to free up funding so we can start in on the 64 Valiant. Its a 2 dr.!

Unfortunately, what you've got in it and whether it's as nice as you say it is (which I'm sure it is) doesn't change what the market will bear.

Well...on the car, you are right...its only worth what the market says. About Al's car? it was a 2 door....1974 Dart. Dart "sport" which is the plymouth duster with the dodge emblem. but you were closer than my guess with the 4 door! lol

POSSIBLY, and they did use different cars depending on season/episode. The Duster/Dart Sport/Whatever often had a mismatched '70-'72 Plymouth "A-body" front clip installed, so I'm definitely possibly half-right some of the time. ;)

...any MWC experts here?

I've looked this up before. There was some inconsistancy in the model years he stated from show to show, as well as what model they showed in the garage. But I think Dennis is right that he only refered to it as the Dodge.

I've got a 1975 plymouth scamp. 2 door, tan on tan, s6/904/7 1/4 factory ac needs fixed due to heater core install.

I've got $2000 in with puchase price as well as heater core, water pump,inspection, brakes, new tailpipe (but not the whole exhaust), tune up, other minor stuff. It doesn' have any holes in the floor and the frame is solid up front. I made a repair to the rear frame at the back bumper because the rear leaf shackle was about to come through the trunk floor. The car is solid enough to be a daily drive for many years to come. I drive it regularly and took it on a very long trip from pittsburgh to charlotte last summer.

I don't think I could sell my car to anyone except another mopar junkie for more than $500. I wouldn't even consider taking less than $1800. Why? Ask my wife, she'll give you a boatload of reasons :roll: I guess only old men like old cars. :wink:

I'd consider a trade + a little cash to you, but I'm not sure this is what you had in mind. We'd have to exchange pictures and talk. Then there is the matter of time and travel. It's all very time consuming and easy to just let it go most days.

If you offered your car for $1200, you'd get a bunch of quick offers. :roll: If I offered mine for $600 it would be sold today. :( Everybody want a deal.

I had a '75 Scamp 2-door hardtop... One of the few cars I've ever sold. :lol: Cream puff, triple green, 318/auto, low miles, little-old-lady used, bought $1200, sold $3000, had it about three years, in that three years all I did was tune it up real good, buff out the paint, install 15 X 7" 5th Ave wheels in rear with cop car lids all around, and put a Demon style scoop on a $15 hood and painted it matte black (put virginal original hood aside for safekeeping). The plan was for that to be my "high-buck" crate 360 car, but it just never had the "feel"... The '75 just felt more generic and plasticky than the older stuff I'm used to riding in, never even gave that one a name. Good investment, though.

I paid 1400 cash for my 75 4 door with 50k original miles that had been sitting in a garage for over 20 years. That was 7 years ago and I"ll never get rid of her :).
