Well, I figured out why my Holley 1945 is running so lean, and it is not good. I was looking at my accelerator pump linkage today and I noticed fuel stains on my throttle shaft where it comes out of the carb body. I grabbed the shaft and it wiggled a good bit and a little dribble of gas came out. I guess I need my throttle shaft rebushed. I thought that Holleys were not supposed to have this kind of problem, only Carters. How much does it cost to get a shaft rebushed? I am kind of on a fence with this one. I don't want to sink anymore money into this crappy Holley so I am thinking about just going ahead and switching over to a 2-barrel. What do you guys think?

Also what is this?

I hate to bother you guys for anymore parts, but does anybody have an extra acclerator pump linkage for a 1945 (one with the u-shaped bend in it). I dropped mine and the car ate it

Toss it or get a new one on eBay. That thing is some kind of smog control crap, I bet SSD can give you the long version! ;) :)

Yeah, that is what I figured.

What do you think of my throttle shaft problem?

Junk it. Go with a two-barrel, or new (NOS) one barrels turn up all the time on eBay for less than a hundred bucks.

last time i had a throttle shaft bushed it cost me 45 bucks and that was after i disassembled the carb and brought them just the carb base. on the other hand, the same place charged me 45 bucks to bush both shafts of my AFB a month and a half before. i foget what the hell that sending unit looking part is on your carb top. i do remember when i went to dual 1945s i had one with and one without. i ditched the with carb for another without.

Yep. Good time to start thinking about moving away from the POS Holley 1945 and installing something better.

Incorrect. Who told you that??

Enrichment valve nipple.

So it is not hurting anything for the enrichment valve to be unhooked?

Okay fellas, I talked to my dad and we are changing my car over to a two barrel. I called a guy about a manifold this weekend and he is in the process of moving right now. He said give him a couple of weeks to get things sorted out and he said that would help me out. He has two manifolds, one is aluminum and one is cast iron. Which one should I get? What would be a fair going price for it too?

Now I need to hunt down all the rest of the stuff too. Does anybody out there have a BBD for a Slant they would like to sell. What about kickdown linkage and the brackets. Might be able to fab up something on my own if can see some pictures. I have been looking at the lokar cable kit. The main thing I need know is carburetor. How hard would it be to use a 318 carb? I have a 2-barrel off of a Ford 302, don't know what model it is but is an NOS carb. My neighbor said these can be made to work on the Slant. Is this true?

It's too bad I didn't know you ten years ago, Jeb. I gave all that 2V stuff away when I changed my Duster over to 4V. Please note that there are still junkyards in our vicinity with Aspirins, Volares and trucks replete with the "super-rare, super-sought-after, super-high-dollar, make-a-fortune-selling-them-on-eBay Super Six setups" if you're willing to hunt a little bit. I think I remember my buddy said there's a couple in a junkyard one county over from me. I'm PMing you the number, but tell him specifically you're looking for an Aspen or Volare or whatever with a two-barrel six, he probably won't know what you mean if you say "super six". You should be able to score the whole deal locally for about $40 to $75 if you pull, this includes everything from the a/c wing nut down to the transmission kickdown lever. Don't mess with trying to adapt a frog carb on there, you can score a BBD for a Mopar just about anywhere, no worries.
