Post subject:  Carter 2bbl tuning

I just switched my /6 from a 1bbl to a 2bbl Carter w/ aluminum intake, added a new exhaust manifold. The only carb tuning I've done has been with the idle setting. When I start it up the fuel spits up out of throat of the carb...any tips on tuning a Carter BBD?

Where did you get the carb? Has it been rebuilt? By you or a decent mechanic?

My mechanic put a reman on my truck. I apparently got lucky in that there was noting wrong with it in the way of being worn out even after the fact. I did still tear it down thinking there was some sort of problem with it. Closest thing I could find was a blockage in, I forget what it's called, one of the tubes that leed up to the venturi. I figure it got blocked by some trash in my gas. But I fixed it by blowing it out with my mouth. Bleh! Gas! Anyway, my real problem turned out to be the manifold.

the carb has been rebuilt, although I believe it sat for 5 or six years after the rebuild before I installed it.

How far out are the mixture screws? I believe the starting point to properly adjusting them after a rebuild is one full turn. There are other adjustments inside the carb that might fix whatever problem you're having. You might look for a set of instructions that come with a rebuild kit and follow them, checking each spec.

I have the idle mixture screws out 1.5 turns each. there are 2 screws inside the carb...possibly the jet settings? Those I set at 1/8 turn each. Initially I had the jet screws? set at 1.5 turns each, but that was when the fuel started spitting out the top of the carb. where can I get my hands on some tuning specs for a Carter 2bbl?

2 screws inside the carb... I hope you don't mean the ones that hold the venturi cluster in place. If so those are NOT an adjustment, they need to be reasonably tight. Your gas would be coming out between the casting and teh cluster. Hope you didn't dislodge the check ball for the engine to swallow.
