| Post subject: | Milky oil on dipstick |
I've had this problem for quite a while now. The dipstick is always covered from top to bottum with oil that is milky. I'm not loosing any water and when I have the oil changed it looks fine. Is this condensation in the dipstick tube? It kinda makes it hard to read at times. Is there anything I can do to solve this? Thanks Highway |

Milky oil is a product of condensation of water in the engine and crankcase (unless you have coolant leaking in, but you say you don't). Do you livein a cold climate? Do you ever take your lant six out on the highway for a good long drive? Cold climates and lack of extended periods where the engine is hot can make condensation collect in your engine. Try changing your oil and filter, change your PCV valve and breather, then make sure to give your car at least on run a week where the motor gets hot enough to burn off all the excess moisture in the crankcase. |

When you change the PCV valve, also make sure the hose and the "port" on the carb are not plugged up. |

I replaced the PVC valve and Oil breather cap. The oil breather cap was gummed up pretty bad and the PVC valve I don't think has ever been changed. I also blew through the PVC line and it seems to be clear. If it persists, I'll let you know. Thanks for the help. |

Well 'what'? I stated I replaced the PVC valve and also the oil breather cap. That fixed it and I also said 'thanks'. What, you want a kiss on the cheek now, cause your S.O.L. on that one. Just confused on what I missed...... and again thanks. BTW - Charlie where are you from? |

If the dipstick is always covered from top to bottom with milky oil then it would not be fine when you changed it. also why did you post that remark to Charlie. Can you reply |

I replaced the PVC valve the evening of the post. I've checked the dipstick several times since then and there has been no milky substance. As of the remark to Charlie, it does seem to be a little on the 'smart' side. I do apologize if I offended him and anyone else. It was stated in a humorous tone. But I am curious of the "Well???", what was he asking? And again I do apologize, Highway |

Yeah, I've heard about you Ocala boys.  I thought replacing the PVC valve had fixed it, but after Ron's reply I don't know. |

Ok highway thats cool. When a problem comes up people like Charlie and others like to know if what you did solved the problem they then can put it in there database and if the same problem comes up then they can respond with a answer. The milky stuff on the dip stick is caused by excessive condensation within the engine. Excessive condensation is caused by short trips where the engine dosen't fully warm up. The cure is to take a long trip, where the engine fully warms up, and stays that way for a extended period of time. In this way the condensation boils off. Changing the PCV and breather cap did not fix the problem. That may have fixed a "problem", but not the "milky stuff on dipstick" problem. |
