I got historic plates for my '53 Plymouth, and I had to get a safety inspection to get the historic plates. The rule is 25 yrs. old and older. But if the car is in that bad of shape, and that unsafe, I hope your're not on the highway while my wife and child are!!!

Here in VA, you don't need ANY inspection on cars with permanent antique plates. Sweet! My '65 and '64 Valiants are pretty roadworthy, though, and I drive them gently. I would be a real pain to get them to an insp. station every year, esp. if the car is not working/being restored. I think the law on this matter is the correct one. How many news stories do do hear about with old DeSotos and Edsels careening off the road? It's just not a problem. Drunk and reckless driving is. Antique car people tend to be on top of how their car is mechanically.
