Can you tell me what the part number is for the base on the A-body sport mirrors? Thanks, Jerry |

There is no P/N for the base, which was not serviced. The mirror was serviced only as an assembly. Sport mirror pkg assembly, Valiant/Dart all body styles incl. Duster/Sport, 1974: LH, remote control, Primed: 3695 506 LH, remote control, Chrome: 3695 507 RH, manual, Primed: 3586 176 RH, manual, Chrome: 3586 174 |

Whatever they are, they're not in the '74 FPC. Where'd you find 'em? Could be casting numbers, which are often not the same as part numbers. |

There was a nice set of chrome sport mirrors on EBay. I spotted them late, so I wanted to see if they were for A-bodies or not. One of our members recently bought a pair of F-body (I believe) mirrors. I know they have a different base that won't work. I just wanted to make sure, before I made a mistake and bid on the wrong ones. At my office, I still have a copy of the '74 Parts Book you sent to me. After I saw the auction, I was running out of time to hunt it up. Nice mirrors, but the wrong ones. Thanks, Jerry |

The A-body mirrors have a horizontal mounting plane. That is, if you wanted them to be right side up, you'd need to find a horizontal surface to mount them to (like the top of the door panel not counting the window). F-body mirrors have a kinda-sorta-mostly-vertical mounting plane (like the side of the door panel.) |

Yes, the base of my standard round mirror on the top of the door mimics the base of those sport mirrors. I became skeptical of those in this auction when I spotted the sloping bottom surface of the bases. That's why I asked the seller for part numbers, and those above are what he gave me. I think it was one of our overseas members who recently purchased some of these same mirrors, but we haven't heard how they worked in his application. If I had not already gotten a fresh paint job, I would consider mounting some, but I would have to fill three holes in the top of the door. I've even thought about getting some just for the mirror head (painted version) and constructing some type of a fiberglass or carbon fiber base, simply because the A-body examples are ridiculously priced. Can anyone confirm the above numbers as being from mirrors off an F-body? Jerry |

hey jerry I did purchase the sport mirrors off a 77 cordoba. I gave you the auction number and the auction page may still be there on ebay. The thing is that my door panel has no "vertical" surface, it has a lip, then a sorta ballpark 30º slanted surface say 2,5" and then the panel itself. I think that the mirrors I got are going to work in my case. But if they're for mounting on the side of the panel, I'm restoring the car right now, so I can afford to close holes and cut new ones. I'll let you (and the other guys) know if F body mirrors are up to the task in A bodies. |

Hmmm... interesting... that's the way early (60 - 62) a-bodies are.

Here's what I mean by "flat" surface on the door top: As best I can tell, those F-body mirrors would mount farther down the door's "vertical" surface, just over the "sharp" edge below the holes shown here. Jerry |
