Came across this by accident. I was measuring the head thickness, to compare to the thickness of a honing plate, so I could get the head bolt engagement depth correct. If you look at the slant head, you will see the head bolt boss is the same hight as the valve cover sealing surface. Every used head I had on the shelf, measured 3.605 inches from the valve cover surface to the head surface. Checked the thickness of a milled head and the dimension was 3.505. So if you want to do a quick check, to see if the head was cut, with out CC'ing the chambers, just measure the thickness. You will still need to cc the chambers, to determine compression ratio. |

That trick worked good on my 70's heads... I turned around and stripped out the head I got out of the '63 truck I just scrapped and find the number is 3.691...and the chambers CC at 63cc's... I'm gonna have to scrape the crap out of that one to get it down to the 52 cc I need...jeez... -D.Idiot |
