I spent all day today removing my old manifolds and linkages. I took a few pictures and I also have a few questions.

Here is my Supersix intake, ready to go on the car

Here is the Carter BBD after a rebuild

http://img71.imageshack.us/my.php?image ... e2d5sz.jpg

Here is the slant, void of any manifolds or linkage. I also found several potential vacuum leaks. The previous owner had replaced the manifolds
and not used any sealant on them, just a gasket.

Here is my exhaust manifold. What is the best way to remove the pits in it so I can paint it. I want it to look nice. Now it looks like crap. I also broke a bolt off. you can see it in the second pic.

What color where these Vacuum fittings originally painted? this one stripped of all paint. I plan on using it.

How do I remove this little clip? It holds the accelerator cable in place. Tried pulling on it with pliers and it doesn't work.

The accel cable clip "just" pushes off to the side. It is a VERY tight fit...on purpose! Keep working at it, or just unbolt the accelerator pedal assembly and remove the whole thing to the bench for easier access (and less chance the clip will fly down under the carpet, and get lost and gone forever.)

Most of the vacuum trees were originally not painted.

Intake and carb look nice, you obviously spent time on them.

The exhaust manifolds were "pitted" from the factory in many cases. There's no way to fill the pits, but if you want an ultra-smooth surface on your exhaust manifold, you could either spend a lotta time with a die grinder "porting" the exterior surfaces of the manifold, or have the manifold porcelain-coated.

Just-a-gasket-no-sealer is the conventional way to install the manifolds. It's how the factory did it. Nowtimes, we have much better gaskets available than the original factory metal items.

Start by keeping the pesky acc. pedal out of the way, pop the little black plastic 'plug' at the top of the acc. pedle actuator out...move the 'ball' at the end of the cable 'up' and out of the actuator...your pedal flops down, then you can get in there with a screwdriver and a small hammer (the grommet is held in like Dan said with a nickel sized/or so 'C-clip'...sometimes rust takes it's toll and it needs to be driven out-don't go mongo on it)...

Once it's out, reverse process for installation...unless you're using the 1975+ 'square' acc. cable style then you'll need to do a bit of 'engineering' to get it to seat right (the cool part about the aftermarket A-body V-8 cable is it's about the right length for the super six, and is the pre-75 round style...)

good luck,

-D.Idiot

I have the cable for a 77 Aspen. It has the square head. How hard is it to install.

Can't answer that for you, since I had multiple options to work from when I switched on my '74...

1) Use MP V-8 cable.
2) Get acc. pedal from a 1975-1976 A-body.
3) Pull out a unibit and change the hole to fit the square but will need to make a sheetmetal washer to hold it in place when putting the little 'tab' back into the aspen acc. cable holder.

This is a good test fo your ability to scrounge up some parts or make something work.

good luck,

I got bored tonight so I snapped some pictures of the parts that I have stored in the house, mainly on the dining room table. My mom is very understanding, she lets me bring most of my junk into in the house for safekeeping as long as it doesn't give off toxic fumes or is extremely greasy.

Here is some of the parts that I have been collecting for my Supersix conversion. I bring in all of gaskets so they won't get messed up. There is also a lot of "stuff" laying around also.

More parts

I pulled this off a 75 Duster. What is the best adhesive to reattach it with?

http://img239.imageshack.us/img239/4049/uned8hv.jpg

I made this to take with me to car shows. As long as the wind is not blowing I put it up. Some of yall might recognize the photos on there.

Now we move outside. This is a picture I forgot to post earlier. This is the Supersix intake after being stripped of all paint and grease. I put it next to an old 1-barrel intake that I had laying around for comparison.

Behold, the mighty 1982 D-150. This was my daily driver until gas prices went up. It has 312,000 miles on it and has never let me down. It has a stock slant six with the lean burn computer, 727 trans, and 8 1/4 rear with 3.25 gears. It gets 10 MPG but is very peppy and can pull pretty hard in first gear. I will take some more pictures later on this weekend.

Thanks. The paint is starting to get a little fuzzy but other than that it is in great shape.

I didn't look at your pics. If you haven't done it already, take that manifold to a shop and have them check it for flatness, and have it milled if it isn't. Saves yourself alot of headaches in the long run.

Oh, the green car across the road is a 56 Ford Crown Victoria with a supercharged 460. My neighbor was doing transmission rebuild on it. He is one of the best Ford mechanics I have ever seen. I am very lucky to be living right across the road from him. He helps me all of the time with all of my mopars.

I have finally finished the super six conversion. ANy body who has not done this to their slant six powered car needs to do it. You will not believe how much better your car will run. Even with 2.76 gears out back my Duster is suprisingly quick since I put on the two barrel, even with the tiny 1-barrel exhaust system. No more people honking their horns at me when I am in traffic and trying to get up to speed. I am going to get my 2 1/4 exhaust installed next week for even more horsepower. Here is pic of it after installation. It is really not all that good of a pic as I was in a hurry to take it.

Image

I would like to send a special thank you to Charlie S., Cstryker, and vynn3 who all helped find the parts I needed for my super six conversion. Couldn't have done it without you guys.
