i have a read (and re-read) the articles on fuel injection on this site...what about using the fuel injection system off the early 3.9L Dakota...either the TBI used from 88-90 or the 91-? port fuel injection? i haven't tried any fuel injection conversion yet, but i am toying with the idea. even went to the JY to dig into some GMs a little for the batch fire system, but came up empty...that is what got me thinking about the Dakota idea. sb |

The TBI sytem used on Dakotas and full size pickups absolutely sucked. It gave terrible mileage and could be easily outdone in terms of economy and performance by a decently tuned pre-smog, lean burn free carburetor. The only reason why the factory used it was becasue they badly needed something to replace lean burn and EFI technology had not been perfected yet. Being better than lean burn is not saying all that much. |

You really are limiting yourself by wanting to stay with matched components. - ie, all dodge, all gm, etc. If you were considering the gm system then it sounds like your not afraid of doing a little manufacturing yourself. You can adapt nearly any throttle body to a clifford/offy intake with some metal plate.... I highly suggest checking out www.megasquirt.info and www.msefi.com for more info on the megasquirt. That way you can mix and match components, and also tune to your hearts desire with just a laptop, not programers/prom erasers/etc. |

ok, so i'll 86 the idea of the dodge TBI....but what about the MPI that followed? the only reason i have been limiting myself as far as all dodge or gm, is the JY approach i am taking to the idea of fuel injection....and reading the articles on this site.... i have a good running truck, but fuel injection is uncharted for me and therefore tempting. i'll check out the megasquirt info as well. sb |

I've been looking into MS recently, but honestly, I'm waiting for their router board module to come out before I get to serious with it. Do I really need sequential fuel injection and the ability to run coil per cylinder ignition? No, probably not. But it sure does sound tempting. |

Oh you deffinately still get junkyard components, but with the MS you can get throttle body from this car injectors from that car ... Right now I'm running 22lb new takeoff injectors from http://www.fiveomotorsport.com, an isuzu (gm) throttle body (only one I found with ported vaccum ports, still running stock EI distributor), lc-1 wideband o2 from innovate motorsports - you get the idea. The megasquirt uses gm sensors by default but you can calibrate it to use any you want if you have your heart set on something else CStryker - progress on the megasquirt is made too quickly to say "I'm going to wait for....." by the time gpio board comes out a new gismo for it will be in the works you want to wait for, and the cycle continues. IIRC you can get everything going with an MSII/V3 board now, and add gpio later. Also check out www.diyautotune.com and www.rs-autosport.com for actual ms hardware, and www.apeusa.com for fuel delivery. |

Everything Jeb said about the '88-'91 TBI system used on Dodge trucks is absolutely true. Look elsewhere, this is not a system worth adopting. |
