hi i have a nice 64 dodge dart convertible with a slant six. i fired it up last week to go somwhere and drove happily down the road. about half a mile later it died on me. i had to tow it home. the car will not idle now. the only way i can get it to fire is if i dump gas in the carburator and hold my foot on the gas. i have taken the carburator apart twice since then and have found nothing out of place. the plunger looks a bit old but still functions. i checked the fuel. its good. the fuel pump is workingas is the filter , and i know its getting spark. i am clueless as to what it is.
any ideas?

First I would check for a big vacuum leak and also the timing, may be the chain has slipped.

Sounds like a piece of trash wound up in the idle circuit.
