Hi, I am new to this forum and would like to seek your help. I have a 68 dodge d100 with a 225 in it. It runs fine now but i need more power! I know about the super six mods, but i have a spare 225 and was thinking about building it up. what cam/exhaust/intake combo would be good for such a heavy truck? with the spare motor i kinda wanted to use the 198 rods and 2.2 pistons. what kinda power does that add? is it worth the trouble? thanks for the help.

I moved this to the engine forum so it would get more responses.

The best performance boost you can do, is pull the 225 and install a 360. I am sure there will be several that will disagree, but in the long run, I think you will be happier with the results.

But the built up 225 in a light A-body. Then you can actually enjoy the fruits of your labor.

I agree with kesteb on this one. You can get a perky running slant six in a truck but it will take a lot of work since you are dealing with such a heavy vehicle. I have been planning to put a 318 in my truck but haven't got around to it yet.

I have a built 360, a 383, and a few 318's that will never see the inside of that truck. to ditch the slant six in this truck would make it soulless to me. i bought this truck(69 d100) for $200 bucks when i was desperately in need of some wheels and all out of cash. It has been so good to me i could never remove the heart of the truck i love. I am not looking to build a speed racer out of it, just make it a bit more peppy. currently i am having a problem with it only running with the choke on, it still runs good, just needs it on or it will stumble and die. i am fairly good with fabing stuff and am looking for and excuse to tinker on something. I kinda want to build or modify the stock intake for two or three 1 bbl carbs. I also would like a set of headders. if i can get a little extra cash i might get a cam. just wanted to know what would be cool or what is worth the effort. anyone have pics of custom intakes?

check out the offy website....easier than fabbing, but more $$.

http://www.offyparts.com/product_info.p ... d57d97f389

header or dutra duals should be easier to come up with than you think. if you like fabbing you could even make your own set up. cams can be had for right around $120 from places like summit:

http://store.summitracing.com/egnsearch ... 4294840127

if you find a part number, summit can get other grinds, that is what i did for mine.

if the engine is coming out there's a lot of other things to do to wake it up...do a few searches and you'll see what i mean.

good luck.

sb

Bravo. I applaud your devotion to your slant. You'd think the folks on this board (if anyone) would understand your wanting to stick with the slant, even if it's not the easiest or more practical route to more power.

Several members drive slant-powered trucks, so they can't be that bad. 99.9% of the generic hop-ups for the slant apply to pickups, too, plus you have the advantage of space. Unless I'm mistaken, you might have room for a later-model OD trans, which would enable you to go with a short rear gear and still maintain livable RPMs on the highway.

Good luck!

I was lookin around at the cams and was wondering if there were any worth their money on a basicly stock motor (intake and exhaust mods) remember, im working with a heavy truck and would like to keep it the torque motor that it is. also does any one know if durtra's fit on the "sweptline" trucks (61-71) how much would they run for a set? does anyone make headers for the trucks? thanks for all the help guys.
