hello,

i am new to this forum and i am experiencing several problems with my 1985 225 /6.

first: on a cold start engine starts, then stalls almost imediatly. requiring wot to warm up.
after engine is at operating temperature, it has a very noticeable miss,
shaking,
very sluggish acceleration( accelerator to floor, 35 to55mph in 2.5 minutes)

has new plugs & wires, rotor, distributor cap, fuel filter/lines, air filter, pcv valve, breather, and ignition coil.

also, is it possible to remove the egr valve and install a cover plate in its place?

any help would be greatly appreciated.

thanks,
amos

Hello and welcome!

First off, does you truck have a lean burn or spark control computer? If so, I would suspect the computer.

It sounds like your choke is misadjusted and malfuntioning, and it also sounds like you have a vacuum leak. I would check your choke pulloff diaphragm and your vacuum advance pod on the distributor for leaks.

it has the holley 6145 feedback carb. i've always had trouble with this carb, either not having enough power, stalling or the like, since it was new. checked all vacuum lines/hoses-tight. carb bolts are tight, no leaks that i know of.

a local mechanic told me that the choke stove was bad. any clues?

by the way, the truck has sat for the past 4 years, with only an occasional cranking. is it possible that the float or needle valve is sticking?

also, i would like to convert to possibly a 2bbl carter bbd carb w/ intake/header & maybe a cam. does anyone have advice in this direction, or where i can get these parts?

i have electronic ignition, what does the vacuum advance pod, look like?

sorry for long post,

thanks, amos
