Just put the fresh 225 back in and fired her up - no oil. Replaced the oil pump during rebuild. Is there a way to prime the pump. The service manual does not cover this or do you think I   got a bad one from NAPA
Thanks
Tom

First, do you have a guage? Are you sure you have no oil pressure, or just no oil to the valve train? If you don't have oil pressure, You should be able to remove the cover from the oil pump, and pack a small amount of vasoline in the gears. If you don't have oil to the valve train, there is a good chance the rear cam bearing is installed wrong, or a problem with the oil metering holes in the cam. Also silly question, you did install the oil pickup tube, didn't you? A crack in the pickup tube, could also cause no oil pressure.

Yea Carrlie got a guage no press took - oil filter off and started for 10-15 seconds - no oil. When I rebuilt the motor I didn't remove the pick-up. the oil press was good B4 I pulled the motor. I did pack the pump with grease berore installing. Do you think pulling a vacuum on the filter tube while turning it over will prime the pump?? This was a 5 bolt Melling pump - looked the same as the one I removed
Thanks
Tom

Oh, Oh. I was going to suggest a missing oil galley plug, but if there is no oil getting to the filter, that is not the problem. If you put grease in the pump, it should pump. Think you have a bad pump, or a problem with the pickup tube. Gear might be spinning on the pump shaft, or the pressure relief valve stuck open. I think, I would pull the cover off the pump and see if the rotors are turning, and remove the pressure relief valve cap and make sure there is a spring in there, and the valve moves freely. If it is easier, pull the pump and check it .
