'75, the newest model year vehicle not subject to a Smog Check...for now. Remember, California's smog laws change frequently and illogically. Don't do anything that would be very expensive or difficult to reverse should the laws change and suddenly require you to pass a Smog Check again. Removing the air pump without removing the catalytic converter is a poor idea. Beyond that, what-all do you have in mind for an overall rework? |

And 75 is the last year that is exempt from testing in CA. They got rid of the rolling 30 year part. So 76 and newer will need a test. Technically, they can still get you. 75 and older is exempt from the biannual tests, but you're still not suppose to remove the stuff. Piss off a LEO and it could ruin your whole day............ |

You know, if all the emissions stuff is working properly, why remove it? A non-plugged catalytic won't hurt performance and a working one really cleans up the emissions. An AIR pump doesn't really have much of a drain on the engine and we only get one atmosphere. |

Ditch the OSAC valve and run a vacuum line straight from the carb to the distributor. You may be able to get by simply unhooking the EGR valve and plugging the hose. Leave it all intact though, in case you have to hook it back up. Just plug the hose. If it pings though hook it back up. Leave everything else as is. |
