Slant Six Forum :: Looking for help with a numbers matching Question

I'm the second owner of a 225 slant six 68 Charger. I bought the car in 1981 from the original owner. She never mentioned to me that she had the engine replaced or rebuilt. I'm not sure how to tell if the numbers match. The Casting number on the block is 2806830 a small space than a 2 moving toward the firewall behind/under the exhaust manifold is this set numbers 03308 then a U Over on the other side on the top of the block near the coil and alternator bracket are these numbers PT 225 R 24670034 Which does not match my VIN Can anybody help with what these numbers mean.

It is ridiculous to think that a numbers matching slant six 68 charger will ever be worth anything susbstantial.

Thank you for all the information! I'm used to guys giving me a bunch of crap over my slant six Charger. The guys with Awesome big block Chargers are cool to me about it. I guess they are just more secure in their manhood

COOL car man... don't worry about other people's opinion on what's worth. I'd pay more money for that '68 charger with a slant six in it than any amount I'd pay for a 318 or 383 68 charger.

Slant B bodies gather lots of interest at car shows and cruise nights. There are so many big block and R/T Chargers there that nothing is unique about them anymore. Same for Slant E bodies.

THe number you need is on the passenger side of the block near the back of the block (like back near the auto tranny dipstick tube), right above the pan rail...clean off the gunk and it should have some or part of your VIN...if not, she probably ran out of oil, blew the #5/6 rod through the block and got a junkyard special during the day to replace it... Hope it's numbers matching, not many original 225 /6 Chargers left... -D.Idiot

There could also be a pad under the 5-6 plugs just like the one at the front where the engine CI is stamped.

Thanks Pete The "PT 225 R 24670034" is the engine number, and not the car's VIN. It decodes as : PT = Trenton engine Plant 225 = 225-cid R = regular gas 2467 = Engine assembled April 29, 1968 0034 = 34th engine built that day Not all engines and transmissions had the VIN stamped on them, although those that did were built after January 1, 1968, from what I have been able to determine. The car's VIN is usually stamped on the right side of the block, just below the head under the #6 cylinder. It may not be a full VIN, just the last eight digits. It will be a machined boss (ie, a piece of nice, smooth iron) with digits stamped into it, just like the location where you found "PT 225 R 24670034".

I agree "Dare to be Different" Thats why I chose to stay with my 62 Valiant 4 dr. slant 6. I've given the engine a little mussle, the usual... cam, carb, etc. I could have dropped a Small Block in (a 340 perhaps) but I chose to stay with the Slanter. Anyone can have a Mustang or Camero or whatever ......
