Has anyone here used a comp 264H cam? How do they compare to the 264 for solid lifters?

there for the later model slants 1980s that use hydrolic lifters

If you have that motor you need a hydrolic cam.

I know that. I have a hydraulic lifter head installed. I just wondered if it'd be worth my money to buy that cam, or if anyone has used it and found it to be rubbish. I'm contemplating a rebuild, I have no experience with valve lash and I'm weighing my options; Rebuild the one I've got (hydraulic lifters) or get another engine (possibly with solid lifters) and rebuild that one. The plus with getting a second engine is that I can take my time and do some mods (Increase cylinder bore, Increase Comp. ratio, Offy 2x1 BBL, drool, slobber, slobber.....) as funds permit.

As has been stated numerous times on this board before, no, you do /not/ need to run a hydraulic cam in a post '81 motor. It is a simple matter of using the rocker shaft from a solid lifter engine. Now, I believe that it is possible to put the hydraulic cam in an originally mechanical lifter block as well, though I am not sure of the details of what would be required. (To be quite honest, I've never looked into it, because I don't know why you would want to.)

I actually would be interested in seeing a hi-po 'juice' motor. It's on my list of "projects to play with". I'm not sure how things would go, but I was thinking about using something a bit more aggressive like a Big Block Hydro profile...but that will be a much later thing....

As a general rule, the comp cam is fairly mild in manners.

I was interested in going hydraulic until I found out how the stock setup works. It feeds the special lifters from the top via the rockers and pushrods, no thanks! I have been thinking about the possibility of plumbing the lifter bores from the outside of the block and then using normal V-8 lifters. The are the same diameter. Then the adjustable rockers could be still be used and only a custom length set of pushrods would be needed. The cut to fit set from Mancini Racing is reasonably priced. The area I am not sure of is right by the fuel pump boss. The rest of the block looks easy. Really too easy. I have kept the adjustable rockers with a hydraulic cam on V-8's and it is really a much better setup than the stock non-adjustable.

Although I don't see the need for a hydraulic cam, I've always thought the factory solution was rather elegant...........

Be careful (do alot of research) ...
I once tried a re-grind cam with a 327 Vette Fuel injection grind.
Worked like CRAP...... true, this is only one example. But what
it tells me is to research.... what works well in one engine doesn't
necessarily work in another.

By the way .... does anyone have an old Crane Cam catalog
(about 1990 vintage), I stuck a Crane Cam in my slanter back
then. Then the car went into storage (I just pulled it out of storage).
All the info I had on the cam went away ......
I seem to remember it being around 270 - 280 duration.
I went as big as I could and still get some kind of idle (automatic trans).
It idles at about 900 or so .....
I tried going to Crane Cams dot com but found nothing.
Seems they don't make a Slanter cam anymore.
