I swapped out the BBD on my 73 to a different BBD, and while it runs smoother now, it won't run below 1200 RPM's. When I cup my hands over the top of the carb the idle speeds up, I can't remember what that indicates, vaccum leak? |

Most likely it is a vacuum leak coming from a worn throttle shaft on that BBD. Lou |

Ugh, I hope not. Guess I'm gonna have to go get a Holley. |

I found a great article on signal strenght on big carbs on small engines topics in hor rod something magazine (online search) and it covers completely and exhaustively the means and ways for making a big carb like holley 2300 or 4100 series work on small displacement engines such as our loved /6. I'll post a lnk to it maybe tomorrow when I'm home (off-town now and I have it saven on favourites folder in my computer at home) |

What was wrong with the old BBD? Do you still have it? Or did it get cored? |

I still have it, it makes the car run extremely rough right up until it dies. I've never had a luck with Carter carbs. I found a Holley 4476-S, will this fit my super six intake? |

I just put together my super six and it ran bad but the ports were plug for the accelerator pump. but if you still romp on the gas it waits 2 seconds and goes. Is your new carb's metering rods set right? |

Not sure, always been able to setup Holleys. Never been able to get a Carter to run right. How do I set the metering rods? Is it that cap head screw that's on top of the accel. pump? Would this affect it at idle? Like I said though, I can cover up the top of the carb and the idle speed will rise up on it own, which makes me think it's a vaccum leak. |

Does this look like it'll fit? It looks too big. |

That's a Holley flange, probably a 2300 carb. or derivative thereof. No, it won't bolt directly on, but adapter plates are common. I'm running a very similar carb on a Mr. Crapsket adapter plate. You will have to completely rework the kickdown linkage though. (Have fun with that...) |
