I've got the 270 in my '82 pickup. So far, I'm impressed with it. I was a little concerned that I would lose some low end, but thus far, the bottom end is equivilent to what the stock engine w/ the hydraulic cam had, and there is a noticable improvement in the top end. I haven't really had time to get the carb and dist. curve dialed in thoroughly, and I'm pretty sure that there is more power to be found throughout the RPM range. It's got just enough of a lope to the idle to be noticable, but still works fine with my stock convertor (A727 tranny). I am very satisfied with it.

The new engine actually began life in a '78 Volare, so I'm running stock solid lifters, but I'm running 340 valvesprings from CompCAMS. Admittedly, its not an entirely fair comparison between the old and new engines, as I also took .09 off the head and put in the SI oversize valves. I think the current state of tune handicaps it enough though, that I feel somewhat comfortable comparing them.

Hey cstriker what kind of intake and carb are you running? also what kind of mileage you getting. I'm just getting ready to start on my truck.

I've got a cast iron supersix with a Holley 2300 derivative off some Ford product, with a Mr. Crapsket adapter plate between the two. Honestly, I can't give you a fair mileage estimate; I have a hellacious vacuum leak, and there is a lot of tuning that needs to be done. As it sits I seem to be getting around 14 mpg, but I have never actually calculated it. I've been really busy trying to finish this semester (I'm a full time college student, working two jobs), but next week I'm done with all that. I've got an internship with John Deere up in Iowa, and hopefully I'll have a lot more free time. The concept of actually getting weekends off seems so foreign right now...
