My question has probably been answered here before but, here goes; '62 service manual says hole goes to the left. '62 Motors manual says to the manifold side, same right? '65 Motors manual says '60-'62 hole goes left '63-'65 goes right. Here's the question, I was told by what I have to believe is a reliable source that the aluminum block engine used the motor oil for extra cooling to the cylinder walls, all others get the oil to the cam shaft. I really would like to get it together correct the first time, any help would be appreciated.

That is correct for '60-'62 iron and all ('61-'63) aluminum engines: The oil hole points to the manifold side of the engine.

All other engines ('63-up iron) have the conrod oil hole pointing to the distributor side of the engine.

Thanks Dan, with the block having been surfaced and the number behind the coil being gone, any ideas on the safest assembly? It is the early style, 2463430-xx block. I looked at another engine that I have and the hole is to the cam side, but the block is of the 2202857-5 variety. Maybe I'm over thinking this whole thing?

2463430 = definitely post-'62, so point 'em towards the distributor side of the engine.
