Officially, 1966.

Some 1965s made it through with 8¾" rears.

My '65 Barracuda had an 8-3/4....it was behind a 273 commando. I blew it up and replaced it with an 8-3/4 robbed from a Valiant Wagon. This was many years ago when 8-3/4 rears were common in junk yards....

strange how they(chrysler) kept putting the 7 1/4 sg behind v-8's. especially 273 commandos and 4 spds through 1969.

7 1/4 suregrips are pretty tough little rears. Charlie as been using one in his drag car for quiet a while.

I've pulled from 2 65 Dart V8 4 speed cars 8 & 3/4's. Don't remember the build date on one of them but the other was a 7/23 build date. I would suspect late build 65s with V8 4 speeds were most likely to get them (salesman talking customer into heavy duty rear?).
