What is the proper way to hoist the slant 6 in or out of the engine bay? The shop manual says to use a special tool but doesn't show it. I see 2 fairly large threaded holes in the top of the head on the manifold side. Is that the lift point? |

Thats one way, I have also had good luck with pulling the head with the engine in situ and then using the front right most head bolt hole or the alternator bracket hole and the rearmost transmission brace bolt hole down by the starter. This method works better for low clearance vehicles like vans. |

Day before wife and I went over to the Netherlands, I pulled a slant and 904 out of my 65 Dart wagon for one of the list members. Used a chain in the aforementioned holes on the head, got lucky with the angle and was able to pull it without even removing the hood. I've since bought a load leveler for future installations/removal. Just got lucky I guess this time. |

Wow, was that considered carry-on luggage? |

Gee hope my post didn't sound like motor/trans was going to the Netherlands (only older American car I saw was a 70s Chevelle with Dutch antique plates on it). After I pulled it, one of the list member's father picked the motor/other parts up day before we left. His son got into DC then drove back across country picking up other parts along the way (hope the motor/trans will work out OK for you Menko). |
