Well it looks like I will be doing the super six conversion this summer so I'm looking into upgrading the exhaust system now. I've been looking at different places here in Sweden where they can bend and mount a new exhaust system and it's kinda expensive comparing from what I've read on this board. However, I found this place who cand bend me a system, and then I will get it in place myself.

Now, I've been under my car and the old system looks good and my duster is nice and clean under, so I wonder, has anybody done this themselfes, is it hard to get tha pices in place and so on.. It looks like it will save me a great deal of money..

hello

installing an exhaust system in your garage is cecertainlyossible!
my main concern would be that unless you are going with an
"exactly stock" replacement system, what they bend may not fit.
yes most exhaust shops can come up with the "cards" to tell them how to
bend the pipe, once you start changing the diameter of the pipe, things
start to become hard to fit. still this is doable but you might be making
several trips to the shop to "bend this a bit more here" make sure they are
willing to work with you like this.
other then that, just soak everything in your favoaite rfavoriteer
before you tighten everything for the last time, check your clearances
over the axle with your jack stands under the axle, not the body.
in other words with the weight on the axle.

Are you using 3 into 2 headers, 6 into 1 headers, Clifford shorty's or redoing the stock single exhaust? There are a lot of variables that will make the job easy or more difficult. I put dual exhaust on my 64 Dart 4 speed car and it was possible but it needed a good pipe bender to get both exhaust pipes to clear the clutch linkage and the gas tank. Good luck.

Thanx for the replyes! I'm redoing the stock exhaust but thinking of going either 2 1/4 or 2.5 from the stock manifold and all the way back. Staying with single pipe. But i guess it is like you mentioned, it depends om how "well" they bend the pipes from the beginning and a little luck perhaps.

If you can weld, the other way to do it is to buy the pre-bent mandrel-bends and piece the exhaust together..............

You are limited to the size of your exhast manifold. If everything looks good, maybe just a better muffler and larger diameter tailpipe. Dutra duals are nice too :D

Well the thing is, looking under my car I can see that someone has replaced the exhaust sometime before, The really old 1 3/4 stock exhaust comes of the manifold with just a little piece, then there is what could be a 2" pipe that overlaps that little piece of stock, and then runs to a volvo 740 muffler then the same 2" pipe the rest of the way back.

2" pipe is not that bad I guess, but since the 1 3/4" pipe is what comes of the manifold I'm guessing it might be a bottleneck, could that be right?

Maybe I just need to get some pieces of this exhaust replaced and a good muffler, I dont know much abaout theese things.

if most of what you have is serviceable, then just put a good muffler on it
and replace as needed. an exhaust shop should be able to replace your
front pipe with 2" without much trouble, just a new 2" flange and some pipe.
if more then 50% of your system needs attention, then it would be best to
think about replacing the whole thing. imho

as Ed said, if you can weld, and have the equipment, things are easier
