| Post subject: | How is battery secured? |
The 73 Swinger I got didn't have a battery. There is a battery tray, but no J bolts or other hardware for securing the battery. From looking at the battery tray, it seems that there is only one hole on the engine side of the tray for a J bolt. What method was used to secure the battery in a 73? On a side note, I am going to paint the engine compartment this weekend. The area around the battery tray was pretty rusted, and after rust removal, there is some pitting in the metal and big edges between the paint and the formerly rusted area. Would you use some sort of body filler or glaze to fill in the pits, or would it get too weak being in the heat of the engine compartment. |

You'll find the other hole on the vertical part of the inner fender. Body filler could be used to try and smooth the pits, and the area near the battery isn't generally hot enough to crack it off, but putty doesn't have a very good reputation for staying put unless it's applied very thinly. |
