This is gonna sound really dumb as I have rebuilt many engines but... where is the timing indicator on a slant 6?

i have looked everywhere for it but it is either not there anymore or its hiding on me.

I do have a dwell meter... will this help me set my timing?

Thanks in advance for any responses.

Gordon

You mean the pointer, or the balancer indication?

The pointer is what I believe is missing.

The mark on the harmonic balancer is easy to find

Should be on the passenger side of the timing cover; Even if it's missing, I imagine the stud that it bolts to should still be there. I can grab pics if you need.

If you could post a pic that would be awesome.

So far all of you are very helpful and polite unlike some childish car forums.

Thanks :)

The dwell meter, as I understand it, is for setting the points gap, which you don´t have (points) on an 83.
Well, if it has not been fitted with an early ignition system, that is.

I think i have the timing about right just by ear but I'm still having a bit of lag in acceleration under half throttle.

Do you suppose i need a new carb or just rebuild it?

What carbs will fit this engine anyways? Any 1bbl?
