This is a purely hypothetical question at this point, but how difficult would it be to mount a slant six on a 69 A-body smallblock k-frame? I have a 225 with metal and rubber motor mounts for a 66 A-body, what sort of fabrication would need to be done? Is it even possible? I know the best fix would be to swap to a slant six k-frame, but time wouldn't allow that right now. Thanks! |

I have never done it but you could most likely make it work by drilling some new holes in the K-frame to motor mount mounting pads. It would be a good idea to mark the crankshaft centerline before you pull the V8 and then make sure the Slant's C/L ends-up in the same place. DD |

Thanks Doc! Right now the car has no engine or trans, so I couldn't mark centerline. Looking on the Schumaker webpage in their "Identifying K-members" page, I see that the v-8 k-frame measures 20 inches between the tops of the motor mount perches and the slant six measures 22 1/4. So basically the v-8 motor mounts are placed 1 1/8 inches more inboard than the slant six perches. I am thinking that I could fashion a steel plate and weld it to the top of each V-8 mount but that this might make the engine sit higher in the engine compartment. |

Steel plate or boxed steel, even "U" channel, depending if you need to come up in height from the current location. Heck, I have seen people use pieces of hardwood to make the connection. ...I am thinking that I could fashion a steel plate and weld it to the top of each V-8 mount but that this might make the engine sit higher in the engine compartment. Pay attention to fastener access, I have done these type of "special brackets", spent a bunch of time making the pieces just to find that I could not get a nut or socket into the needed place. DD |
