My son and I are re-assemblying my '74 225 engine. We have painted the block, cylinder, oil pan, and valve cover the original Chrysler blue. Can anyone tell me if the manifold was Chrysler blue when the car was new back in 1974. I've had the car since 1974, but I don't remember that detail. |

I don't think they used high-temp paint, so I'd say cast iron......... |

I would love to see someone take the time to polish an exhaust manifold and do a high temp clear-coat. Otherwise, I don't think the exhaust maniold got any paint. |

There was no paint (except for overspray) on the exhaust manifold. It was plain cast iron, protected with an oil/cosmolene coat that burned off shortly after the engine was first started. |

I used POR-15 high temp exhaust paint on the manifold on my car. Follow the instructions VERY closely and you will be rewarded with a good looking, durable finish. Here is a pic of my manifold after three months of use. It was painted with POR-15 and has held up very well.

I painted mine red with 1200 degree high temp paint from the auto parts store. It sat for weeks before being installed and run. It turned dark maroon, almost black in just a few hours of run time. Now it's getting a white/grey color toward the center of the manifold. I have really got to figure out this picture sending process. |
