Ok, I'm not very educated here/new at all of this so it may be a "silly" question. I recently replaced my starter, the old one wouldn't turn over all the time and noticed it was cracked around the + connnection. I installed the new one fine, but now it makes a loud clicking sound when I go to start it. But it dosen't do that when I touch the + and - with a screwdriver. Did I do something wrong/or is something else going on???

Selinoid or low battery make that sound

Check your battery cables (both of them) carefully. In addition to visible signs of degradation (extreme corrosion, broken-off ends) they can break internally, preventing enough current passing to run the starter.

It is probably not your solenoid, but if this is a "remanufactured" starter from the parts store, an off-the-shelf failure is entirely possible.

ahh very cool. Thank you. The + cable is new, but I noticed yesterday the - cable is old and goes through a splitter of some sort...maybe there is where the problem is? Should I check it via a continuity test with my multimeter?
