![]() ok here's my cam card i've installed the cam straight up dot to dot I am using a coxbros double timing chain set... but performance is nowhere near expected...so I am thinking the cam is/might be retarded now a friend is going to degree the cam for me given the specs on the camcard should I advance the cam if yes how much? engine: 88 thousand off the head, mild ported, os valves, headers, edel 500 carb, 3.55 gears |

Can you get us some more info about what performance you're expecting and what you have now? What was your old cam and did you change your jetting or distributor for the new cam? Does the car run out of power in the upper rpm's or does it start off like a slug and then come on strong. Advancing a cam moves the power band to lower rpm's. Retarding moves the power band up to higher rpm's. What cam is that? Exhaust valve lash cold .014" seems tight according to the spec sheet. |

It is ALWAYS a good idea to degree your cam - otherwise it's a crap shoot. I have gotten lucky in the past, but it's not the norm. Also, almost every cam maker gives you a centerline that's basically for a V8. You need to advance it 4-6 deg from that spec. I would install yours at 101-103. This will not substantially kill high end, but will increase your low end a lot on a 225. Lou |

Do you have a stock torque converter and around 3.00 axle ratio?? If so, that cam is on the edge. A 2800 stall converter would make a HUGE difference - like 0.5-1 sec in the 1/4... Lou |

The stock cam has 20 degrees less duration, so at low rpm it will have a power advantage........... |

Woohoo we degree the cam with the gears dot to dot aligned it was 10 degrees off.. we repeated the process until it was at 104 and trust me it has allot of low end...burn tires with ease....running very strong! I am more than happy but I am still having problems with those damn leaking headers |

Unfortunately, as you know "header" is synonymous with "leak". |
