Post subject:  Source for true 10" highstall converter?

Where can I get a true 10" 3,500 rpm stall converter for the 18 spline early model slant 6/225/904 tranny? Would this work on the street with a 3.55 rear and high rpm engine, or would it run to hot (Louisiana)? Please let me know a phone number or email or street address. Thanks guys.

There are several companies that will make you a converter, but some do not have the early small spline parts available. All my converters have been made with the small pilot, for the early engine, and the large late model splines. I just use the late model large spline front parts in the early trans.
Edge Racing Converters
PTC converters
Midwest converters
There are others, but these companies have experiance with slants.

Post subject:  is 10 inch stock?

I got a 2400 stall for my 61 904 from Edge. I believe the torque converter housing to be a stock part (10 3/4 inch diameter). The guts are all new - for the small spline they had to have a part machined and that made it a bit more expensive. Edge will build the guts to the stall speed for which you ask.

If you have some time to kill, chat with Andre. He is a Mopar nut and loves to talk about auto trans stuff.

Midwest made me a very nice 10" that stalled exactly where I wanted it (2800). It has the bigger inputs (later trans) with the small snout (67-down crank). They can probably set you up.

Post subject:  High stall converter

Thanks, guys. I've emailed all 3 potential sources. I think I'll call Cox brothers if all else fails. I got some engine parts and roller rockers from them, and they are extremely nice and helpful to us crazies who like to make slant sixes go fast. People ask why not go to a small block, and the best I can understand my motives is that I wanted a fast slant 6 in 1964 when I had my first new car, a 1964 Signet 225 (4 speed), and now that I'm old and worn out I finally have one (plus a Viper and a '61 300-G and an Avanti II). Ain't God good? I am truly blessed, and hope you are, too. Thanks again everybody.

Post subject:  ten inch stall converter

After striking out with the sources suggested, I called back to Rick Pare' and he asked me to send him the stock converter (18 spline). He is going to find a true ten inch housing to put my parts and the 10" internals into. Maybe the next one will do the charm. My car runs well after it gets started, but the engine builder calculated in a true 10" high stall converter, so that's what it really needs. I should have it back in a few weeks, and I'll post the results.
