hey again, still fighting a 77 volare carter bbd, i cannot for the life of me, get this part to get in place properly, granted that pic is the jeep version, but it just wont go down there good, theres a spring and its too dang springy, it wont stay down low enough, i replaced the gasket, the old one was in horrible shape, tried it with no gasket and still not low enough, i tried the old spring hoping it would be smaller then the old one, none of that has worked, i didnt take pictures of disassembly and i cant find much info online, so any ideas what the problem is? it seems like the range of motion isnt enough, i set the white nad green plastic pieces on the throttle shaft where they where originally when i reinstalled, there were little indents so i could see where to put them, please help, i gotta have it rebuilt and running by monday 4 am to go to work |

Okay, first, are you sure the metering rods are going into the main metering jets? If they are you will be able to push the step-up piston down with your finger. Second, if the rods are going into the jets, get the carb off of the fast idle cam and back out the curb idle screw until the throttle is completely closed. Loosen the screw on the accellerator pump shaft which hold the plastic tab with the arms that hold the steup-up piston down. Push the step-up piston all the way down while exerting a light pressure on the large plastic tab opposite the little tabs that engage the piston. WHile doing this, tighten the screw on the accelerator pump shaft. THe plastic tab should now hold the step-up piston, and therefore the metering rods, in the right place.
