When replacing the instrument cluster in my sister's car less than a year ago ('77 Ford Maverick), I put in all new Wagner bulbs. Iirc, they were 198's. Well, when I came home this weekend, she asked if I could replace one that burned out, if it wouldn't be too much trouble.

Appearently one of the numerous "better ideas" that Ford had that year was to put a steel plate directly behind the instrument cluster. As a result, you have to yank the entire cluster assembly again in order to change the bulbs. Well, that's not w/in the scope of something I wanted to do this weekend, so it's being postponed until the next time I'm home.

Does anyone (Dan in particular) have a reccomendation for a better type and/or brand of bulb so I won't find myself having to pull the freaking cluster every 8 or 9 months? (Though I've done it enough times for various reason, I could almost do it blindfolded now.)

After you replace the bulb, have your sister use the dimmer on the instrument panel...................

All Wagner's US-type miniature bulbs (you put in either 194s or 168s) are Chinese nowtimes. Same with GE and Sylvania. Check the manual and see which bulb was originally specced, then shoot me a PM.
