I recently purchased a 1963 Dodge Dart convertible in real good shape. It has a 170cu. in. slant six with automatic transmission. My question is,where is a good source to purchase restoration parts, every thing from engine,to interior and exterior? Thanks,John

Welcome onboard. The '63s are nice cars. There is no good one-stop shopping for resto parts...that kind of "point and shoot" one-book/one-site ordering is for cars like '55-'57 Chevs and '64-'66 Mustangs. Borrrring!

There are lots and lots of sources for the parts needed to restore a '63 Dart. This source over here has such-and-such a special part, that source over there is where you want to go for some other part, yet another part might well be available in good quality from your local parts store, etc. It's best to make up a shopping list of what you're after and post it here, then you'll get pointed in at least one good direction for what you're after.

Is this your first old car, or have you done this before?

Thanks for the reply Dan.Right now I'm actually looking for the interior panels that are down by your feet on the door side[not sure what their called].I've had a couple other older vehicles.I'm really not much of a mechanic but I do like to tinker around with them. John

Are you talking about the "kickboards" (at the left and right side of the car, forward of the doors, tend to get beaten up by feet kicking them over the years) or the trim panels on the doors themselves?

You may want to follow the suggested-reading list in this post.

I'm looking for the kickboards.I can see it's going to be a little harder to find interior and exterior parts for this car compared to the others. The others I recently had were a 1950 GMC pickup and a 1955 T-Bird.I'm lucky that the Dart is in excellent shape and doesn't need much.I'm the third owner and the car was always garaged. It has 68,125 miles original miles on the little slant six. Kickboard interchange is '63-'66 Dart, Valiant and Barracuda.

You can get them in several different colours from www.laysons.com (be careful when mousing around his site—he does have some hard-to-find stuff he has made specially, like these kick boards, but a lot of his product range is simply bought on the open market and marked up, sometimes way up.) To find them, go to his site, enter Dart, then 1963, then Interior parts, then floor-related parts.

You can also get them at Blue Star Spares, a reputable source for a lot of high-quality early A-body parts. The only downside is their location (Australia). They happily ship overseas, you just have to be a little patient. The US/Australian dollar exchange works in your favour and offsets shipping costs.
