Post subject:  Questions about a 60 Belevedere

Okay, what can you guys tell me about a 1960 Plymouth Belevedere sedan? Weight? Dimensions? Is it a B body or a C body? How hard is it to convert from a generator to an alternator?

Any other general comments about 60 Belevedere's in general?

Its not a c body nor a B body.....its just a Plymouth.

I bet it weighs about 3200lbs

Converting to an alternator is as easy as swapping the charging system harness and alternator braket.

Of course a car like that is in no way Kool.....so you should give it to me....

Nice try.

I don't know if I will go for it or not. The price is right, it has a slant, :D , I am just worried about things like finding suspension parts (for a disc brake conversion). I think I will go pull Tom Condran's book out....

That's the plus about liking something 'nobody' else wants, you get your cake and get to eat it too. 8)

Go for it! Disc swaps and such have been done on the '60-'61 "proto-B-body" cars without terrible difficulty or expense. These cars have a strong following and surprisingly good parts availability. Head over to www.forwardlook.net and see for yourself. Andy Bernbaum, Imperial Services and Gary Goers are three suppliers of note. Be real careful relying on Condran's hallucinations. Swapping to an alternator is completely simple.

The club sedan weighed 3,430 lb and 6,529 of them were made. The 4-door sedan weighed 3,448 and 42,130 were built.

Body parts are not a glut, but mechanically, you can find most parts easily. They do make disc brake conversion kits for them.

A good website for these cars is: www.forwardlook.net

Most clients would love it much more than the guy who drove up in a Beamer!

Heck...mild build slant, change rear gearing a bit....it'd be a go mobile! (not any heavier than a late A-body with a couple guys in it!)

I was looking for a barracuda, nbut the more I look at this beast the more I like it. You just can't help but smile when you see the fins. :D I gotta get rid of my van to make some room.

P.S. I fervently hope to never meet any of my clients in person, much less have them recognize me off the street. Convicted child molesters, convicted murderers, and convicted drug dealers are not really the kind of folks I want to hang around with.

I don;t know if the belevedere has already sold, but the ad was there this morning but is already gone. I hope it is just the owner changing his mind and not the car being sold. I wrote down the phone number so maybe I could pester him about it.... :?

I believe 1960 was the year Plymouth used an alternator instead of a generator. The alternator was introduced at the same time as the slant six.

Seen a few 1960 PLymouth slanted boats with manual steering and the driver's side generator mount...

The 1960 Valiant introduced the alternator as a standard production item. The alternator was not installed on other Chrysler Corp. vehicles until 1961, when it was used across the full line of cars and trucks in the US (alternators were optional equipment on Canadian-market Valiants for 1960, 1961 and 1962, becoming standard in 1963).

The 1960 full-size Plymouths all had generators.
