I get a major calf work-out every time I drive my Duster. I have a feeling that it's due to the throttle cable being way old and not lubed well (if at all). Would just spraying some Kroil down the cable housing work for lubing it, or is there a better method, a-la the speedo cable trick?

Generally this means the cable wire itself has worn a groove in the cable housing's liner, so it rides tightly in that groove. Best way forward is a new cable. They're not costly.
