i just got back from work, took the school car,(ignition switch is too loose and i didnt have time to mess with it this am in the dart) 93 laser with a 5 speed, and i have been trying to follow the posts on the t5 conversions, 5 spds are just fun to drive! anyway, ive been wondering about how to convert my 67 dart gt auto to a t5. obviously theres the clutch pedal issue, i dont want to cut a hole in my floor, is there another way? i dont know much here, this is the musing part, could you rig up (or is there one already on the market?) a sort of electronic clutch, like a big button of some sort, like a bright/low headlight footswitch, only not 2 way, it would need to be only active when held down like a clutch pedal, that you could push like a clutch pedal to disengage the motor in order to shift? could some parts from an automatic be adapted for this? thanks and let the brainstorming, or informing, or both, begin!

If you look on your firewall down by the starter area, you'll see a plug in the hole that would be for the clutch linkage.

You need a set of pedals from a manual tranny late A-body 67-76.
You don't need all the linkage if you go with the hydraulic clutch setup.
But you will have to open up the tranny tunnel and weld up a hump or something for your gear selection shifter.

Here's a link to a hydraulic clutch kit. It ain't cheap, but it's what I plan on using to avoid clutch linkage hassles:

http://www.keislerauto.com/mopar/transm ... k-kit.html

Regardless, adding a manual trans of any kind (even a factory 4-spd) will require floor cutting/mods of some kind.

going to a T-5 you only need to cut a hole for the shifter to go through since it is a top loader unlike the 833 which is a side loader which requires a larger hump to give room for the shift linkages.

I have heard from a nice gentelman at carlisle that those Keisler Hyd. Throwout Bearings have a 100% Failure rate.

This genteleman had bought the whole system from keisler, BH, trans and Everything else.

He bought another throwout and it was the same part as the one that had failed on him eariler, so he returned it. They charged him a $100 restock fee.

I have had no personal dealings with the company, but This is what I have heard.

He also said customer service is horrible.

those internal slaves cylinders were never a good idea, hard to bleed, hard to replace, hard to make work right. my opinion is to rig up a external slave much like a toyota or nissan or even a early slant. my brother's 61 d100 has a hydraulic clutch but it also has the low starter and the big bellhousing with the 11" clutch.

i have been toying with the idea in my head and have yet to come up with a way to mount a slave. i am not giving up though. i need to find a slave that can pull, much like the ones used on vw trannies in dune buggies. all you need with one of those is a solid eye to mount it to. if you have headers, a heat shield is in order. i think something bolted to the engine/tranny brace right there would work well. now if only i had time and parts and money to see if this would work.

Don't you have to hack and slash the T-bar X member though?

I run an off the shelf style world-class T-5 from a Mustang in my Charger behind the 265... I had to trim the torsion bar crossmember along the top..
The car is not really an A body perse, but it is along the same lines.

Here is a test fit pic... I plated and braced the floor nicer after this, but gives you an idea at least (I made the crossmember/mount as well..)

That looks pretty good OZ, I have a T-5 and most of the parts for the conversion. Just need the rest of the time and money. :? Have you got a bench or buckets?

that looks nice oz, thanks for the info, i think this project is out for my dart , im trying to find a happy medium between keeping it stock and making it more fun to drive, and this seems like more then i want to do, my dart is pretty original, even then paint, not too bad for almost 40 years old, thanks guys!

For a while I kept my car sort of stock...but got tired of 30 year old technology and upgraded with the 5 speed and a rack and pinion eventually, and it was 100% worth the work !
The trans shifts so much smoother then the old stuff (plus you can get all the after market 5.0 mustang shifters for them!) and the rack and pinion is tons better as well.

Now to maybe just do something abit more high tech then the six-pack setup
