I was wondering if the transmission of a 225 would bolt up to a 198? I know the bolt pattern is different on the tire because one has disc and the other has drum. I'm thinking ones like the XLT and ones just the plain jane because one has trim, powersteering, airconditioning. I hope that wont matter though. I got the 198 motor out of a welder/ generator so it has no miles on it. |

The 198 will bolt right in place of a 225.The fact is that the 198 and 225 both use the same block, only the crank and con rods are different. DD |

Just as long as you have either a manual transmission or a post-'67 225. Earlier 225's will not bolt up to later torque converters. |

Matt brings up a good point, you can not install a 60-67 "small hub" (small counterbore) crank engine onto a later (68 and up) "big hub" automatic transmission. In the case of the 198, all were made with the big counterbore so if you want to install the 198 onto a 60-67 auto trans, you will need to use the special adaptor bushing. Another thing to watch is the oil pan, it is best to use the oil pan and it's matching oil pick-up tube from the car you are swaping the engine into. SL6 oil pans are diffirent depending on the car's year and chassis type. DD |
