I just acquired the complete Super Six Kickdown courtesy of another member of the board. it's pretty rusty but should clean up all right and I'm very happy to have it. While examining it to decide how to proceed with cleanup I noticed the on one end of the long rod, the end bent into a "U" shape with 2 holes for another "U" shaped rod to pass through, one of the holes is severely enlongated, allowing the small rod to rock back and forth. I don't believe this is the way it was designed but would like to confirm that. My thought on a repair is to weld a washer to the inside, would this be a suitable way to repair the piece or should I look for a bronze or plastic bushing?

I have seen that happen before too. It is not correct, and is a sign of a kickdown which was run misadjusted for a long time and/or abused. I am not sure how to fix it short of the buching or welding ideas you already mentioned. A little slop is okay, but too much will begin to affect how the kickdown operates.

The hole is worn out to an oval approximately twice as long as it is wide. There is nearly 1/4" of excess play.
