I've got a '71 D100, so there's some room up front--would a five blade fan w/thermostat bolt right up?

Here's what I'm looking at:

Thanks,

Yep, if you have the front-to-back clearance, which in a truck you probably do, it'll bolt right up. You may want to install a new fan clutch rather than an unknown used one.

That's the same fan that Mopar Perfomance sells as a cooling upgrade for vintage muscle cars. Its also the *stock* fan for an 83 Diplomat with a slant six (among others). It does cool well, I run one on my '69 440 Magnum (in a Coronet convertible) and it cools substantially better than the original 7-blade fan. More blades is NOT always better. With fans the general rule is more blades can push air across a bigger pressure diffferential (in other words, move air through a heavy restriction), but fewer blades will move a bigger volume of air if there's not much restriction to flow, and will take less power to do so. If you look at modern large home air-conditioner condensing units you notice that a lot of them have only 2- or 3-bladed fans even for 4 and 5 ton units.

Thanks for the tips, guys. Looks like a five-bladed fan is in my future.
