Can I use a later model head on a 1973 Slant 6? Are the cc's going to be the same? Any thoughts on this? I am going to be putting in bigger valves 1.70 and 1.44. I am trying to get away from the spark plug tubes. |

Combustion chamber is highly variable on slant-6 heads. You always have to measure. Why get away from spark plug tubes? Much, much greater spark plug selection for the plug-tube heads, and the non-plug-tube heads are heavier. |

if you were to just bolt the head on and go i'd say do it. i would definitely measure valve to piston clearance when running oversize valves or a hi-performance cam. may be a good idea to use a new head gasket as a template to eyeball the valve clearance to the the cylinder walls, unless of course you have the engine apart and can bolt the head on and look up into the cylinders. but i doubt you will have issues unless you are building a radical engine. -james |
