87 D150 225 1bbl auto with a/c 20mpg highway. Recently had to sell my 64 Dart w/ 170 1bbl auto, used to get 22mpg on the highway.

1976 Feather Duster 3500 lbs loaded, 225 .020 overbore, 9.2:1 compression, Hyperpak Intake, Holley 390, A-833OD, 8.25 rear with 3.55 gears, Tailored timing curve, 10-13 in city (depends on how I have to merge with traffic), 19-21 on the highway (depends on how fast I have to pass)...


1967 Valiant Signet 4 door,Stock 225, Holley 1920, A904 with no partial kickdown, 2.94 rear gears, 9" drums----16 mpg highway (I think the Holley or the A904 needs some help...of course running points isn't helping much either...)

20 mpg in combination city/highway, so far. 225 aluminum. A904, top down, 3.23 open, 185/80/13 tires, BBS, manual steering.

'72 Swinger, stock 225 with Super Six/Dutra Duals, tire pressure @35 lbs. My commute is about 50/50 City/Highway, and I average 17-18 mpg.

225, 12,000 on rebuild, .030 over .050 off head, 252 comp cam , Pertronics in recurved dist (about 10 deg initial, 9 deg machanical & 11 on adjustable vacuum), BBD, auto, 2:73.1 (I think) rear in 64 Dart 2 door. 16.9 MPG city driving, measured on last fill up. 19.2 on last 250 mile road trip @ 75-80 mph, with A/C on. This is about average. My right foot has a big effect on MPG. Second to that, I feel the recurved dist made the biggest improvement.

i got 13 mpg in my wagon when i still drove it, stock 75 motor with egr taken off, 3 speed manual trans, 7 1/4 rear medium probably 3.55s rear didnt like the interstate

what is the advisable one?

This is the history of MPG on my 69 Dart,
1. Bone stock, 225 one barrel, 904 not tuned- 13 city-15 highway

2. Changed to stock 2 bbl, 15-city-18 highway

3.Changed out all ignition wiring to reduce voltage losses- 18 city-22 highway

4. Installed OD 4 speed, 22 city, 25 highway., with a best of 29mpg.

5. Installed rebuilt engine, and T-5, essentially no change.

6.Put in efi, turbo, 14 city,, 22 highway, with a best of 24.

I am changing out the computer now, as we speak (write) and hope to get much better when it is tuned out. Main problem is running rich under boost to hold down pre-ignition is very wastefull. I hope to make this more of a daily driver again,(at least more than I have been).
I must say,(and this is no attmept to sell my forelorn, unwanted 7 1/4' rear ) that the only changes that dropped mileage were upgrades to bigger tires, and the switchout to heavier rear. In the case of bigger tires, the rolling resistance made some difference, and the bigger rear is heavier. It is just like carrying 100 lbs of tools arounnd in your trunk. Oh yeah, I did see a slight drop when I went to disk brakes. I don;t know if they are inherently more "draggy" but I think the old Mopar ones are. I would never trade off the poor stopping for the better MPG,s. That would be like saying you have better control over your car with no seatbelts on. UH.OH,let's not fight over that one.

The thing is, My Covette had 285 tires on the rear, and 275's on the front, and still got 22 MPG average with a best of 30 on the highway, so I know that proper tuning can overcome the big tire issue. In my case, I just have to get a more sophisticated tuning on this motor. My brief affair with the Corvette did not discourage me, it actually encouraged me to get the slant tuned out with sophisticated software.

1965 Valiant, 100 /w rebuilt 225. Everything's stock but the upholstery which has fairly low effect on mileage.

I get about 20.5 kicking around locally. Showed 25 on the highway once. Haven't been back out there since.

73 Swinger, stock 225, except got rid of points type dist, and I just got the 2.25 exhaust, 3 spd auto (is that the 904?).... And I carry about 300lbs of tools everywhere I go... I gotta stop working out of this thing...

After doing the timing (thanks DI) and retuning the carb I finally got my mpg up to a reasonable 17 city and 22 highway... When I bought it the timing was 0 and the carb way too rich, I was getting like 13/15.

87 W150, NP435, NP208, stock axles with 3.55 ratios. I am running a stock, rebuilt, 1978 2 barrel slant in it, has about 10K miles on it now. I am getting about 12 in town and about 18 on the highway.
