if I copy and paste the item# it pops up. but shoppers won't be using this number. This Ebay stuff is a big pain. It might be easier to put the stuff on the curb for mondays pickup

Don't panic; it takes about half a day, sometimes a little more, for your item to be fully searchable.

takes a while, one thing to help you know if other people are finding it is looking in my ebay at the number of watchers, not everything gets watchers, but quite often you get one or two

Means trackers/watchers. Bidders will show up as actual bids. Often the hottest action in an auction is in the last fifteen seconds!

That's the way I always bid an auction. I determine what I'm willing to pay then watch the item. If it is still below that in the last hour or so I watch it until the last 30 seconds then place my bid. By the time it is placed and confirmed there is usually around 10 seconds left. Sometimes I win, sometimes I don't but at least I'm not bidding against myself. Bought a super 6 air cleaner that way just last night.

This technique is known as "sniping". It's somewhat controversial, a little tricky, and bothersome to some sellers and buyers. Sellers like to see the price going up and up ... Buyers who aren't accustomed to it feel as if the auction has been stolen.

Hint: It's an AUCTION. Know what you're willing to pay, bid whenever you want, and be prepared to lose to someone who will pay more.

30 Seconds? HUGE buffer for your competitors. Somewhere I found a place where ebay snipers practiced online. To those folks, 30 seconds is an eternity! And then there are the programs that do it for you ...

Every auction is open for bids from the second it opens to the second it closes. Being the last bidder (in the last few seconds) isn't "stealing" an auction, any more than being the first bidder is. There's no rule or guideline or principle saying you should put your bid in at least n minutes or hours before auction end so as to give other people a chance to bid; everyone's got an equal opportunity over the course of the auction, and bids beget bids; all early bidding does is encourage bidding wars, drive up the price and increase the likelihood of deadbeat bidders.

Yes, I know it's called "sniping" and I also know some don't like it but I'm really not concerned about that. The practice is legal and well within the rules. Yes, it's true, I've lost a couple of auctions because someone else was quicker on the trigger and raised the bid after I placed mine, but since I'm bidding what I'm willing to pay it's no real loss if someone else is willing to pay more. The early bidders who are low-balling their bids have no complaint either if they are bidding less than they are willing to pay. If they bid what they feel the item is worth and someone else thinks it is worth more it doesn't matter if the bid is early or late. The seller is always free to add a "buy it now" button, set the opening bid, and set a reserve so he has tools to protect his interest as well.
