Need some help from the truck guys here.

Looking for an ignition wiring diagram for my 85' D100. I noticed my iginition wire splits off into 4-5 other wires. I would like to just run one ignition wire. The truck did have "lean Burn" system but I have elimanted the trucks need for that.

Thanks

You do have just one ignition switched power wire, it should be blue, but may be red. As you noted, it splits into several differnt wires at a factory splice, which is located in the main harness running across the bottom of the cowl. The splice is roughly above the left 'leg' of the bulkhead connector wiring, approximately half way between the brake booster and bulkhead connector. The splice into 4-5 wires was used to power the lean burn computer, one of teh alternator fields, and emissions accessories. If you no longer have need for all these wires, I suggest locating the factory splice, and clipping the un-needed wires at the splice. At the minimum, you will still need two of these wires from the splice, one for the alternator field, and one for whatever ignition you are running. If you have an electric choke, you will need a third wire from the splice to power it.

If you still have emissions items on the vehicle, you may still need ignition switched power for them as well. I do not have a wiring diagram in front of me, but EGR timer and bowl vent solnoids come to mind. :?

Got an idea which one is for the alternator field? If not how can I check and also what is the purpose for this wire?
Thanks

You can trace the wire back from the voltage regulator to the splice. There is really no other way to know which wire from the splice is for the alternator field that I can think of, as the factory splice is just a crimped metal terminal connecting the 4-5 wires. :?

The wire's purpose is to energize the alternator windings, the voltage regulator controls the ground to these windings via the second (green) field wire. If the blue field wire does not have voltage, the alternator will not charge.

I It's been a long time since I had a stock Mopar ignition and alternator, but I seem to remember one of those wires going to the voltage regulator too. Someone needs to track down a diagram for Highway.

Same wire. The alternator has two field wires, one green wire, which runs between the alternator and voltage regulator only. the second (blue) field wire runs from the second alternator field terminal, to the voltage regulator, then continues on to the multiple splice. ;)
